Yesterday , I heard the news about the bridge collapse in Minnesota . I did not realize the impact at that time . Today , I read the paper and at lunch I saw the bridge laying in the river with the devastation all around the scene . My first thought was how could this tragedy happen ? It appears the bridge was inspected last year and was being repaved at the time of the accident . One problem could have been the design . it was built over 40 years ago , but the bridge had no piers for support . From reading and listening to the reports , it was chaos at the scene . Our thoughts and prayers should go out to all those involved while we wait for the reason it collapsed .
