Simple car accident cases often do not require an attorney . For example , motor vehicle accident cases that only involve property damage to your car , truck , or motorcycle can be handled without an attorney . The main reason is that a property damage claim can easily be settled by yourself . Simply get two or three estimates and submit those to the insurance company . If it is a total loss , go to the internet to determine the value of your vehicle . There are many sites out there that you can use . One key fact to remember , you can only recover the fair market value of your car at the time and place of its loss . However , you can also recover the sales tax on that amount . If you have been injured , you should consult with an attorney before settling your case .
