I just read an Tennessee Attorney General 's opinion on how a child support lien may affect your settlement . If a child support lien is perfected , it is superior to all liens including medical liens . The Tennessee Department of Human Services may record or file a lien to protect any overdue child support payments . If notice is given to you or your attorney , you would have to pay the past due child support out of your accident case or workers compensation case . Many people may get behind on their support payments due to an accident or injury . So , let your attorney know on the front end of the case whether you have gotten a notice of lien .
