School Bus Accident in Rutherford County

Four students were injured last Monday when their school bus was hit head-on by a teenage driver . Rutherford Academy uses only small buses to transport its students . Federal laws require buses under 10,000 pounds to have lap belts . Larger buses have no such requirement . To the relief of school adminstrators , every student was wearing their lap belt . New laws are before the State House making seat belts mandatory on all school buses . There were 558 bus accidents statewide between 2002 and 2005 according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol .
