Traffic Deaths Lowest in Fifteen Years

Deaths on are highways have fallen to their lowest number in fifteen years according to the Department of Transportation . In 2006 42,642 people died in motor vehicle accidents . It was a drop of 868 deaths . However , there are two areas of concern . One , motorcycle accident deaths are up over five percent . The number of motorcycle accident deaths has risen the last nine years . Secondly , drunk driving accidents continue to rise despite increased enforcement measures .
