This is a follow up to my post last week on pool safety, but first I would like to thank the folks at Crazy Horse Canoes in Waynesboro , Tennessee for a great canoe trip on the Fourth of July weekend. Most people who die in a boating accident are not wearing a life jacket. There are a host of options for life jackets. For children , a fitted jacket makes more sense as it is more comfortable. My son wore a fitted jacket on our canoe trip. The bottom line is life jackets saves lives. Secondly, The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency recommend a boating education class. Tennessee state law requires that every boat operator pass a boat examination that are born after Jan. 1,1989. Boat education classes are offered by several organizations. You might even check with your insurance company to find out if they give any discounts on taking the class. When I was younger , my father made me take a U.S. Coast Guard that was offered at McGavock High School class to save a few bucks on his boat insurance. Have a great summer on the lakes.
