When the pet food recalls started hitting the news , I did not even think about the sweeping repercussions of these events . I had not ever handled a death of a pet case . As everyone knows we bond with our pets and develop strong emotional ties to them , but I never thought of the legal problems that go with it . Under Tennessee Law , there are limits to your damages for the loss of your pet . T-C-A 44-17-403 provides that if a person's pet is killed or is injured the owner can recover only up to $5000.00 in damages in nonecomic damages provided that if such death is caused is caused by the negligent act of another , the death or fatal injury must occur on the property of the deceased pet's owner property . After reviewing the law on this issue , is this fair to the pet owner ?
